I am wiring a new office. The wall jacks will be installed by an electrician using solid cat5e. I will be terminating the other ends to a punch down patch panel.

I would like to know if there is any preference one way or the other in wiring schemes.

Which way will the electrician wire it?

Do I need to specify to them the way I want it (if it does in fact matter).

I know I would need to follow which way they did it, but should I be picky in the wiring method? I have heard 568B is more a standard, but I also heard 568A is better for punch downs.

Any ones input is greatly appreciated.

I don't think it will really matter in the long run, just make sure you have it well documented and easy to find if you ever replace your patch panel. We use B here, but I have a canadian friend who does wiring and always uses A for the obvious reasons.

b = america

use B.

As far as punching there is no difference. Its just the pinout that's different.
