Question 5600x-3080 Balance or Wait On 4000?

I have a 5600x, from some reading I’ve done online, some say a 5600x is a bit of a bottleneck for a 3080, and a 3070 is better balance for CPU/GPU.

I’m going to game 1440p, for me, the biggest problem, is not foolishly wasting money, when the 4000s are around the corner. So I understand like many of us do, the waiting game, when will we actually be able to get a card, at MSRP, then the specs, are they worth the upgrade, etc., etc..

So I’ve really been debating back and forth on this...

The ‘EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 BLACK GAMING, 08G-P5-3751-KL’ is the card I’m most comfortable at present spending money on, of course, hoping they’re back in stock, or soon, I did see them a few weeks back.

The flip side for me, is that a 3080, keeps nagging in my brain, for what I assume at 1440p will be a little better frames/performance, and graphical quality.

The only game at the moment, I’m really wanted to get some nice HD gaming out of for now, is Skyrim SE modded, I run like 100 mods on it and doing DyDoLOD, and from videos I’ve seen online, I’m not sure that I’ve noticed any better HD realism between the 3070 or 3080 on Skyrim SE modded. hmm 🤔

Of course, I do plan on playing other titles, which then plays in my mind if the 3080 is a bit overkill on a 5600x for 1440p gaming? hmm 🤔

A 3080 is nice for higher FPS at 1440p, but the picture quality isn't going to be any better.

And I was thinking, like only 10-20 more frames in Skyrim is all.

I actually found out, if your Prioritize the .exe and do Cpu affinity, the game runs really smooth at low frames, by doing these I’ve literally played on extremely low frames like 40 with no lag/stutter... LOL.

So if I get on average 80-100 frames in Skyirm, it’s more than good enough.

Using the same hardware with a 3070 ti versus 3080 10GB, the 3080 is about 11% faster at 1440p in Time Spy benchmarks.

I’m hoping that the chips might be decent on that 3070 I posted, to give it an OC, to bring it closer to 3080 performance, and keep the costs down.

Because if the picture quality isn’t any better on the 3080, I’d rather save and OC the 3070, it seems like a wiser move.

I forgot to mention, I was also thinking about the, ‘EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 XC3 ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P5-3755-KL’;

If there was any benefit with the metal backplate, to help with cooling or card sag. I spoke to EVGA, and the rep on the phone, believed the metal backplate was merely aesthetics, and reading around, it doesn’t look like it really does much, other than aesthetics.
