5600ultra vs. 9500pro/9600pro

Hi guys,

I was considering getting a 9500pro or a 9600pro, but I'm being held back by the problems that a lot of ppl are having with these cards. So the 5600ultra becomes a choice... what could you tell me about this?
I'm also concerned about the fan noise of the fx series. Is the 5600u very loud?

Thanks!

There are 2 5600U's.
An older one running ((I *think*) at 275/275) 350/350 actually, and a revision 2 running 400/400 or something like that.
If you do go for a 5600U get the newer version if you can. No idea about fan noise.

There are quite a few people who are not having problems with the ATi cards.
You could get a 9500Pro and see if it will work, and if not send it back and get a 5600U. I think the 9500Pro should be a little faster than the 5600U.

I think: 9500Pro > 5600U > 9600Pro in terms of speed.

I might have been thinking of the original non-Ultra card then, my bad.
But the newer card is still clocked higher, just not as much.

if you are planning on overclocking the performance is 9500pro=9600pro>5600U

Actually the speeds were 350/350

Sabredan: I would suggest taking the 9500Pro

is that 5600U on ur list overclocked? then again... i dun think many ppl would kno the damn results cuz i can't seem to find a rev2 of the 5600U
but trust Hexus in the mean time

*edit*

I've heard the following problems (no OCing):
- Card doesn't work at AGPx8
- Horizontal interferences on the SVGA output, although not the DVI
- Small halts due to conflicts witht the sound card

I know this may be a too concrete case, but it definetely makes one think :)

yep the card hogs alot of system and hardware resources so u can expect that sort of problem
i think some earlier nvidia cards also had that problem but with the FX, there have been non that i kno of.

1) AGP 8x gains you virtually nothing over 4x or even 2x.
2) I've heard of that rippling at 12x10 @ 75Hz. It's not solved yet? Or has it been narrowed down to specific cards?
3) I haven't heard of this, but it sounds more like a MB/sound card driver problem than a graphics card driver one.

Based on the reviews I've seen, I'd suggest a $200 9700 or a $160 9600P. A 5600U at $200 isn't a good deal. But if you're worried about compatability, then I suppose you may want to take the price and performance hit. I wouldn't.
