560 Ti or ...?

Just waiting for newegg to get the motherboard I want back in stock and I am going to order. I initially set my budget at $250 so the 560 Ti appears to be perfect. I'm not a benchmark kind of pc user. I would not even consider myself to be a huge gamer. With that said, when I want to play a game, I want it to be pretty smooth. I played COD:Black Ops on an eVga 8800GT 512MB card and was OK with the performance so I am not as demanding as others.

So, is the 560 Ti my best choice or is there an ATI equivalent I need to be looking at?

BTW no SLI or crossfire. ANd I have the Corsair 620HX power supply so keep that in mind.

I would really like to stay ~$250 but if I had to stretch it by $10 or maybe $20 then I would consider.

Thanks.

Couple questions.

Any particular 6950?

Any issues fitting one in an antec P182?

245$ after mail in rebate.

this is a referance 2gb version of a 6950, which means you can turn it into a 6970, via a bios flash.... at which point its like a tiny bit faster than a 570 (a 570 on newegg is around 330$).

Then you can overclock it a little,... and just be happy with the value you got for 245$ :)

Since know one asked whats your current cpu and what resolution do you run?

$209? 1920 x 1200 res. Will be getting a 2500k

It is about 10.75" long, how much room do you have?

Not sure. The case is stripped am I'm waiting to order everything.

Will check but it's probably not up to the 560Ti, is it?

When you have the chance to read the reviews, the 5870 isn't that far off from the 560Ti. plus you can save $80 bucks from your initial $250 budget.

It's a real tossup between the 560ti, and 6950.

a 6950 at stock is faster than a stock 560 ti (at 1920x resolutions).

That is without counting the fact that you can unlock the 6950 to a 6970.
At which point the 6950 is a better buy.

and yes.... a 5870 is more or less same performance as a 560 ti (a tiny bit slower, at lower resolutions, equal to it, around the 1920x resolution mark).

@OP: I Know that your budget is $250, but that deal on the 5870 is probably best. here's the summary page for tpu, it has the 5870 actually 1 % faster at 1920x1200 than a gtx 560. If you're not a hardcore gamer either of those cards will work very well. If you just want to get the most performance possible for ~ $250 then get the 2gb 6950.+

Well if you're not demanding as others in terms of performance then my suggestion is to certainly save some money. The 5870 is a good deal; they aren't going to be around much longer. Even cheaper are the GTX 460 and 6850, but the 5870 deal is a better value.

Definitely this.
Anyone telling you nVidia in a bang for the buck discussion is just wrong, because AMD will always slash their prices to keep that crown (also true for CPU's although it stops quite low).

From a stock standpoint, the 6950 is much better (more vRAM, which will be useful in the future, and slightly better scores).

From a non-stock standpoint, the 560 is completely out of the competition, because it does not benefit from an unlock.

Thanks guys. I am definitely considering the 6950. I like that gigabyte but wonder if a few extra $ for the XFX's warranty would be money well spent. I haven't had good luck with gigabyte motherboards recently.

And I was skeptical about the 6950 originally because I don't plan on ever having more than one monitor and it seems a selling point of the card with the 2GB is higher resolution and multiple LCD's.

Imho Gigabyte > XFX but if you did have bad luck ... don't even think about it, get another brand (not MSI, I had bad luck with them).

You are correct "a selling point", but even if you reduce your view to stock performance, future proofing and price, it's still the winner.

It's a bit like main memory, you could get 4gigs, but on the other hand you know that 8gigs are going to make that computer last one more year as a usable machine.

Dang. Just noticed the rebates for the gigabyte and the xfx end today. Would it be likely there will be a new/better deal since tomorrow is a new month or do these cards not normally have rebates?

Why put off until tomorrow what you can do today?

These cards normally have rebates (in fact most cards do, to my chagrin), but Newegg may also bump the base prices up tomorrow.
