It'll be fine . . . the card itself should use no more than 12A on that 12v rail, so unless you have a whole bunch of hard drives, fans, and other components saturating the 12v rail, 550W and 38A combined 12v lines will be fine.

i have a seasonic super tornado 400W. would this be enough to run an x1800xt along with 2 sata hd's, one optical and the rest of the stuff in my sig?

this was one of the highest rated power supply available when i bought it

I have a 1800XT running with my sig system and it's just fine.

I have noticed that when I'm running games, ATI tool shows that it's pulling 34 amps... That could be wrong though. At idle it says it's 10.4 amps.

That is way high. Maybe for the whole system, not just the card. 10.4 amps at idle? that's 120 Watts just to spin a fan!!

@cpacini--LOL--I said the same thing as soon as I saw the thread title. OP--you definitely need 700W--at least!! :D (j/k)

I don't know, it could have been the whole system. That was a month or 2 ago, and I don't think the version I was using fully supported the 1800 series yet.

I use a Zalman VF-700 cooler, so that wouldn't have included the fan's power. Unless it was total system power.
