can anyone tell me if a 550W power suppy is around what I would need to power a system with the following hardware.

E6600
Asus P5B
4GB CORSAIR XMS2 DDR2 800
XFX7600GT
2X Western Digital Caviar 160GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA Drives
4xYATE LOON 120mm Case Fans
2xNEC ND-3550A 16X Double Layer DVD±RW Drives

I dont overclock at all. I plan to buy a new d10 card when they come out so the 7600gt is just a place holder.

my second question is if anybody knows if the antec TruePower TRIOs cables will be long enough for it to work in an P180 Case? or should I go with the NeoHE? I heard about some problems with the NeoHE and Asus MBs so not sure if antec got that worked out or not. Thanks in advance for any help.

550W is more than you need.
AVOID antec PSU at all costs - better be safe than sorry. Try Fortron, Seasonic, Enhance.

I would tend to agree with that statement, but mostly because when you buy a Seasonic or Enhance, you KNOW who made it. When you buy an Antec, you're rolling the dice...

For instance, this Antec is made by Seasonic, so it's a safe bet. With their other PSUs, who knows? ;)

Yes, 550 is plenty, but either the Enhance 5140GH or 5150GH from eWiz via Froogle would be fine too. I'd be surprised if that sytem draws more than 250W from the PSU.

Your call, but if I had to buy a PSU (today), this is what I would get!

Matter of fact, I'm *thinking* about buying two of them, and running dual PSUs... :)

Hey Vin,
. That's just the Silverstone version of the 5150GH Link to 5150GH spec sheet . Why spend $25. more for it?

All Antec PSUs prior to the Seasonic OEMs are/were Channel Well. CWT holds some of the responsibility for the spate of bad Antec PSUs, but Antec itself holds the majority of the blame. Buy an XClio labeled CWT PSU and you'll be fine. They are right at the top of the second tier of PSU mfrs - the top tier being: Delta, Etasis, Zippy/Emacs and Seasonic. PCP&C could be there too if they made their own stuff...

Zepper are you sure they're not going to up the price for version 3? Its a definite increase in combined amps, up to 36 from like 30amps. If not, that is the deal to beat.

IDK, I'm assuming the one on eWiz is as reflected in the spec sheet - which says 36A. But I see the Silverstone has a few more +5V Amps.

Good question! ;)

I was under the impression that the Silverstone version has a better fan controller, than the Enhance, and high-speed vs. medium-speed fan. Is this not true?

IDK any insider stuff on Enhance - you'll need to check with G-Y or JG for that. the 5150GH is close enough that I wouldn't pay an extra $25. for the Silverstone.

However, run your setup through this, just to make sure, and see what it recommends... ;)

All sites for judging what your actual power usage will be are usually not very accurate. Use only as a starting reference point!

somehow I think that's off. It says that my overclocked Xeons are pulling 141W each.

I previously brought that subject up on badcaps.com with these results....
here are selected responses to my thread -- False Advertising by PC Power & Cooling?

JonnyGURU --What's wrong with that statement?
They merely say you won't hear excuses like "we just sell 'em, we don't make 'em." It doesn't actually say, "we make 'em."
And technically (legally) they can say they "make 'em" since they do the final assembly.
**********************

then we have a post by Operandi on these forums --- As far as PCP&C cooling goes I don't consider them rebadged. They have their own engineers and the designs are different enough to set them apart from anything else out there. And I think their reputation speaks for itself as far as quality is concerned.
**********************

Then we have various comments from badcaps.com -- PC Power and Cooling and Zippy are very high end, very expensive and stand on their own laurels. They both have established customer basis that are well aware of PC Power and Cooling's ratings and testing methodology.

Of course, there's also the possibility that the PC Power and Cooling and Zippy bell curves dip BELOW 80%. Nobody knows for sure (unless they hook one up to a load tester, full range it and do the calculation... which nobody has done) and of course, to be 80+ one must be OVER 80% efficiency AT ALL TIMES, NEVER dropping below 80

all good stuff!!! have fun!! :D
