i beat HL2 with my Sparkle brand nvidia 5500....also see my pc specs below(just replace 6800 ultra with 5500 and OCZ ram with 1.5 gigs of mushkin pc3200 value ram)....also when i tried to run the game with only 1 gig of mushkin i had to turn the resolution down to 800x600 :(
where-as 1.5 gigs mushkin, i ran in 1280x768

I would get the game even though the card sucks because on every setting the game looks amazing and plays great on all the hardware. Plus this game is one of the best ever IMO

i benched with 3DMark03 and scored just under 2000 compared to my 6800 ultra (currently not OCing) which scored almost 9000 on 3DMark03 (same settings)

First of all, how did going from 1GB to 1.5GB give your video card the extra legs to jump two resolutions? The extra RAM might smooth things out in texture-heavy situation, but I can't imagine that jump helping a 5500 at all. 1GB is already a good amount, 2-4x as much as most people own. It seems strange that going from two sticks of 512MB to three sticks (usually slightly slower than two due to physical constraints) would let you boost your res to such a degree. This is assuming both setups played the same, tho, something implied (mistakenly?) from your post.

Second of all, why did you go from 800x600 (4:3 ratio) to 1280x768 (16:10 ratio)? Why not 1024x768 or 1280x960/1280x1024?

There are a lot of holes in your story, mister. :D

He went from 1.5GB of RAM and a 6800 to 1GB of OCZ and the 5500. That's why he used to be able to play at 12x7. Look at the video card he had had :p

no, 5500 with 1.5 gigs to 5500 with 1 gig.... i had it on 1080x768 before taking out 512mb and after i had taken it out i ended up having to turn the resolution down in order for the game to run smoothly

my 6800U kicks this games ass...i was overclocking it but theres no point cause the graphics cant get any better :)

Avalon and MS97, I think I got it right: adding an extra 512MB let him play at a higher res. Happy 2005 to you both. :)

I'm still surprised the extra RAM allowed you to jump a res, but anything's possible in this topsy-turvy world. ;)

well i am that "wonderfully smart brother" my jerk brother would state but i was wondering if i can oc on it farther than 323/490 ?

because i tried a few settings and it said it was unstable.
and one more question. i was playing the demo call of duty that came with the 5500 and i tried playing and everything looked absolutely great with no fps lag but all of a sudden it would freeze.
