My boss wants me to increase my hours to 55 a week because he added a lot more responsibility. He doesn't count lunch as an hour, so thats 12 hours I'll be at work. I sooooooooo do not want to do that. What should I do?

Edit: I'm getting a raise of 500 a month if i do it.

What is your job? $6000/year is nothing to sneeze at, but not at the expense of your sanity/health...

What is your job? What are your advancement opportunities? Can you get ahead at this place?

1. what would be your new hourly rate with the raise?
2. would working that much drive you insane?

i got a 4k/year raise at my last job and i still quit it, and wound up taking a pay cut to go to my new job. 4k/year is nothing to sniff at and would make people stop and think, but i get to work normal hours again.

$500.00 per month x 12 months / 52 weeks = $115.38 per week BEFORE taxes.

how long will you have to do this for? what will you have to be doing? How badly do oyu need the job?

Personally, I would not do it for less than double that per month.

:)

The things I do now are: Manage database/inventory, do web design and product support over phone.

New responsibilities will be:
Go to customers to set up equipment for use. Set up demonstrations for potential customers.
Upgrade software for customers. Fix problems in equipment when needed.

If you hourly before is more than your hourly after the raise, tell your boss to F himself.

Start taking 2 hour lunch breaks. Also remember to hang out with the smokers for that extra time off.

Ha, I work a MINIMUM of 50 a week.

6 years ago when I found out my then girlfriend was pregnant I got 2 more jobs. Hours flucutated between 65 and 85 hours a week.

I'd get off one place and take a nap in the backroom of the other place til my hift started....

One does what one must.

If you don't want or need to do it don't do it. but come on it's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. It's less time you'll be jerking off at home, think of it that way.

Edit: or did I misunderstand... you're salaried right?

I'm salary, so after taxes I would get $2000 a month?

Edit: wait thats before my 500 raise, which is not after tax.

Do what the d00d said a few posts ago, and figure out if your per hour rate is going to go up, or going to go down. If it's going down, tell him that you are concerned because you are getting paid less than before.

damn....it is going down. 2000/(4*40) = 12.5 2500/(4*55)= 11.36. Whoa thats not worth it!
