$55 audigy or $75 game theater xp

I need a new sound card and I was thinking which one would be better out of the two. Audigy has newer technology but does that make that much of a difference in sound? I really want the little box that comes with game theater xp but is this card too dated?

no, it's not too outdated, i love mine. i've had it since it came out and i went through the beginning process of crappy drivers. now it's pretty much perfect. the box is awesome too. where are you getting it for $75? that's a steal.

That review doesn't include the GameTheater XP.

The reviews from around the time the Audigy came out showed both of them neck and neck - the Audigy slightly better in some categories, the GTXP in others.

Argh nuts. I just checked newegg last night and it was in stock but now its out. That's ludicrous! They still have the oem of the 6.1 version for 87+9 shipping. Hrmmmm...

they're both the same. the drivers make it 6.1 and will eventually make it 7.1 so i'd get whatever you want. the only software that would be reasonable to use from the drivers cd would be powerdvd.

I have tried both sound cards. The audigy is much better in sound quality then the Game Theater XP. But, I like the box that comes with the Game Theater XP(I need the extra usb connections), so I use this one instead of the audigy. Depending on your need, go with the Game Theater XP if you need the box. If you do not need the box, then go with the Audigy.

Personally, if I have a VIA chipset I am staying away from Creative cards. At least for now.

I have the GTXP and it is great. I don't think there is much difference between the audigy and the GTXP. The GTXP I think would be a pretty good value with the Santa Cruz for the best bang-per-buck.
