I have sbc dsl in my house. They sent me a 2wire wireless modem/router. I have D-Link pci card in my desktop, pc card in my laptop and usb 2.0 for another laptop. They all state max speed at 54mbs. I've heard somewhere, can't remember where, that you can do something to set the max speed to 108mbs. Is this true? If so, how can I do this? Please state detailed instructions. Thanks.

In order to get 108 mbps, you have to have both a compatible AP and client. I'm assuming that you are using the SBC DSL wireless modem/router. 108 mbps (except for pre11n) are proprietary solutions, so in order to get 108, you need to get a D-link AP/Client that advertises 108.

Anyways, their solutions kinda suck anyways (they use multiple channels at the same time, which leads to high packet losses under noisy conditions).

There are solutions from Us Robotics and Linksys that use only one channel and get 125Mbpps and 108Mbps, respectively.

That said, they only provide at msot a 35% improvement. Hell even the dual-channel ones only provided a practical maximum of 40Mbps, which isn;t much higher than the 30-35Mbps that the regular equipment got under ideal conditions..

<--currentlt gets on 16Mbps on his 54GS...I haven't tried using the GS USB recievers though(mine is only a 54G USB and not of the Speed-booster variety.)

As I've stated above I use SBC DSL and a 2Wire dsl router, which is also a wi-fi 54mbs router. I seem to get lousy connection within my house. I've tried most everything from moving it away from the TV and the cordless phone. Still gets lousy connection and sometimes drops connections. Unless I'm standing in the room near the router. Anyone have any clues as to why or any solutions that might help? Thanks.

I would recommend that you use WEP encryption or MAC Filtering. The latter wouldn't affect your speed, but it's the most tedious of the two since you have to enter the MAC address of all the permitted wireless clients. With WEP you lose speed due to encryption/decryption but all the client needs is the WEP key to connect wirelessly. At anyrate, I would put some type of security on it unless you don't mind your next door neighbors leeching off your connection.
