in regards to the 802.11g specification, how come there are routers that are 802.11g and some are 54G while others are 108G. Can the 54Gs be firmwared to 108Gs? isn't the hardware the same?

54 megabit is the 802.11g standard.

The 108 stuff is a doubling technique used where the card/access point use two channels to "double" the performance.

its a manufacturer proprietary thing. i think called super G with turbo for Dlink.

you need a wireless router that support it, and a wireless NIC that supports it. only for the same manufacterror for both.

Going back to the original Question.

The answer Unfortunately is No.

You need to intentionally buy 802.11g Super from D-Link or Netgear.

Wireless ?Speed Booster? from Linksys.

Buffalo Tech, just came out with 125* Hi-Speed Mode? Technology which is advertise at 125Mb/sec.

You can not buy regular 802.11g and ?upgrade it? it to the one of the special modes.

P.S. Pay attention to Buffalo Tech. it is few $$ more expensive but it is a good hardware that is compatible with Windows Zero Configuration.
