5400rpm drives and RAID

I'm thinking of picking a couple of 15GB Maxtors (cheap price) and using the tweak found on Tom's Hardware to covert my promise 100 ATA controller to RAID.
Has anyone tried the tweak on there card? What kind of a speed increase should I see.
I currently get high 22's with my Quantum AS ATA100 7200RPM drive and mid 18's with my Maxtor ATA100 5400RPM in Sandra.
Is it worth the time and effort?
thanks.

I have an IWill SideRAID66 card, and I saw a pretty impressive return when I RAID 0'ed my two old 6.4GB drives. They sped up to about what my newer 13GB 5400rpm drive gives me. I didn't get anything close to the speed a new drive will give you, whether it be 7200rpm or 5400rpm, but they transferred better.

However, I'm not going to use IDE RAID. THe drives wont spin down. So annoying!
