5400 rpm performance

How badly will a 5400 rpm HD effect overall system performance and how much would a casual user notice? Thanks.

Matt

boot up and program load times would suck compared to 7200rpm. seriously though, if you are on budget, 5400 will work but you will not be satisfied

milage varies.... some 5400s are faster than poor performing 7200s altho that is getting rare now. Some will perfrom near the speeds of 7200s but the real reason to buy a 5400 is pricewise you can get a much larger drive for storage and have lots of room for your mp3s, avi's, or whatever your into. Heh i just added a cheap 40gig 4500rmp ata100 and it benches between the 5400 it replaced and my 7200s.

Overall system performance should't be affected that much, it may be slightly slower to a casually user.

I own a 7200 rpm drive and the speed is nice but i don't think it's worth the 20-30% increase in price.
