5400 rmp drive for storage of mp3s, etc

sure...faster is better in general, but the difference in seek times will not matter as much in a storage drive.

5400rpm is good enough for storage. Now, if you get any lower rpm's then...no. 😉

As long as you aren't accessing program files off the 5400 that's good. 😉 However, I know some Compaqs that use 5400 as the main hard drive. :disgust:

with the price of 7200 vs 5400, i dont' thing going 5400 is worth it unless heat is a factor. I've got 2 40 gb 7200 and drive to drive transfer is great! make sure you run them of different ide channels to maximize the benefits. peace out.

5400RPM is fine. I have a 40 gig hard drive that's 5400RPM and all my songs and apps are on the drive. Works really well for storage and stuff like that...

BTW, junthin is right about compaqs. I have a 1ghz athlon, and what did they do? put a 40 gig 5400RPM maxtor in as the main drive. Needless to say I quickly got a 7200RPM drive 🙂

OK, thanks guys.

Basically I was wondering because I might be able to get a really good deal on one of the new Maxtor 80 gig HDDs, but it is only 5400 RMP.

Thanks for all your help!
