533 vs. 400 Bus Speed

I acquired a Dell 2350 system board which is designed for a 400MHz fsb. Would it be possible to run a P4 chip with a 533 MHz fsb on the board?

I pose this question because with a 533MHz fsb chip installed, it will not POST and the error indicator led's on back have a code: Memory modules are detected, but a memory failure has occurred.

Could this be due to the fsb difference?

If as you say, the motherboard only takes as high as a P4 with 400fsb, then you cannot install a P4 with a higher fsb and hope to have it post. This is especially true with Dell or any other "pre-made" computers. Your best bet is to take out the 533 fsb processor and eye it up to be sure it isnt broken (check the pins on the bottom, make sure theres no heat sink goo left on it, and try to sell it and get at least SOME of the money you paid for it back. Then, go out and buy a Pentium 4 processor with a 400mhz fsb and install that.

Assume Nothing. Check Everything Thrice, and THEN Ride The Lightning.

Have you gone to dell and looked up the board for that system??? There may be a BIOS update to support 533FSB Chips. Of course there also may be a line about your system that says it does NOT support 533FSB chips and would have saved you this problem.

Depends on the chipset.

Check out the chipset, and tell us. THEN we will tell you if it could work with a 533FSB CPU.
