For the person who asked how you can tell the difference between jealousy and a different opinion...this is a prime example of the former.

Not everyone can do what I do and yeah, I am worked pretty hard. Why don't you tell us what you do?

Old meme is old.

It could also be called being a flippant asshole internet persona.

LOL, same here. I just skimmed and didn't see where you answered that question.

Good for you, being successful, and having your hard work pay off.

Thanks, although I'm not sure if I feel successful. That seems to be a moving target...does anyone else ever feel that way? It seems like success is relative to your position, and once you hit a goal that position changes.

Tell us your history and how you worked your way up.

My story isn't that interesting nor do I feel it needs to be shared. I could've been born in Africa as a paraplegic blind black man with a learning disability and some asshole on ATOT would find a way to denigrate me.

I can see the posts now... "Must be nice to be born with a mocha complexion and working arms and the ability to hear you fucking selfish asshole!"

It could be. I'm convinced that 95% of the assholes on here are probably pretty nice people. Once you lose all verbal and physical cues in conversation it starts getting easy to take things the wrong way and get nasty. It is even easier to attack an anonymous screen name with your anonymous screen name than a "person."

Didn't I say that way back at post 65?

I do. I make good money and sometimes I wish I made the kind of money you make, but I realize that in order to achieve those kinds of goals, I'd likely have to give up time with my wife and hobbies, and in my opinion, that just isn't worth it given where I am in life. My job is pretty stress free and I no longer have to travel, so I have plenty of time for hobbies and my wife now. Some might say that I am "slacking," but I don't care because I am relatively happy.

Would I be correct in assuming that don't tell people face to face about how proud you are to be in the top 1% of earners and that you say "fuck you" to anyone who says you don't deserve it?

And I see someone raking in a million and go "I kinda wish I was doing that..." But I'm no happier now than I was a hundred grand ago... I don't advertise or look for business... sometimes I want to be left alone but people keep calling me through referrals and I find it hard to say no because most of the time people genuinely need me and saving them a lot of money and forming a professional relationship can be quite rewarding.

I realize it can all go at any time and I am OK with that. I do get plenty of time with family (more than your average working father, I would think) but that is because I make that choice...the only thing really missing is the freedom to disappear for a while. I cannot really get away because I've yet to find a strong worker who I trust. IT and social skills often do not mix, and with the medical IT field you need someone who has both. I could go a few weeks without getting a new account just fine. It is holding onto the ones I have that is important and not letting my customers down.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

The whole up and back in this thread is ridiculous. This is a prime example why you never, EVER talk about how much you make with anyone.

You are correct to assume I do not talk about my income. My parents don't even know what I make. And when people make snide little comments I just tell them "For all you know I could be in debt up to my eyeballs."

If someone told me I didn't deserve what I have I would tell them fuck you. If, during a conversation, someone said the 1% don't deserve it I would tell them fuck you in polite conversational terms.

But no one ever tells me this other than in the news and forums.

Meh. No one knows who we are. Hell, they don't even know if I'm telling the truth. I could be in my parents basement typing this out while I wait for my guild to show up in WoW.

But yes, as a rule, you don't talk about how much you make to friends/family/co-workers. It creates a rift. I've noticed that those who talk about it are the ones who don't make very much and would blow a homeless guy in an outhouse if it would increase their salary.

It is obvious who is happy and who isn't. Someone that feels good about where they are is going to say "good job" and someone who feels like they deserve more than what they have is going to call anyone who makes more than them a selfish asshole.

CNN et al. You haven't heard them talking about increasing taxes on the "richest people" and how 1% of Americans control 42% of the wealth (or whatever the statistic is) etc etc? Have you ventured over to P&N at all?

Yeah I think it's sort of like when you're driving. Anyone going faster than you is a maniac, anyone slower is a slowpoke.

Actually that analogy can be used in a whole lot of places in life, from salary to the size/cost of one's house to political views to health...

D: Come on man, cable news? You disappoint me. Why would you take a single word on any of those shows seriously?

As I alluded to earlier, there is a difference between saying you are evil and saying the country needs to stop giving already well off people more tax breaks.

It isn't that I take them seriously. But they feed the masses with their information, and when the masses are being told that the top 1% are evil, they believe it.

Here is an article that calls people not in the 1% serfs and and how it is all a big scam.
http://www.mybudget360.com/top-1-pe...to-debt-servitude-by-promises-of-mega-wealth/

I'm not saying that the bailouts and AIG, Enron, and everything else wasn't terrible. I agree that Wallstreet is fucking us all. But *I* am in that 1% and I can assure you I have more in common with a welfare mother than I do with an AIG executive or hedge fund manager.

As for giving well of people tax breaks... it isn't *me* personally who should be taxed. Corporate loop holes and refunds need to go away. Taxing me an additional 3% would net the government a few grand...meanwhile Exxon is reportedly getting $150 million tax refund!

What I am saying is that life isn't that much different for me and you

"I don't live paycheck to paycheck"
"not having to worry about money is nice"
"I have retirement, which a lot of Americans don't have"

As much as you want to align yourself as a ordinary man, you do yourself no favors by degrading those who have less than you (money, education, etc..).

You come across as douche bag and fit the exact profile the top 1% receives. If you ever had to work hard for pennies, you would know how well you have it without having to whine or gloat about it. Thats the difference between you and the people you are proclaiming to be.

Everyone(thing) has be classified into groups by Americans to make whoever feel better about whatever. Other cultures probably do the same. Point is, who gives a fuck. You are in the same group as the richest of the rich. It doesn't mean shit, other than you are part of this 1% group. Move on.

Just like ALL welfare recipients are horrible, thieving, illegals. Just like ALL liberals are out to steal whatever money they can from the rest of us who ACTUALLY work. Group us together, pit us against each other, then watch the comedy ensue.

Most people live paycheck to paycheck because they choose to do so. During this "budget crisis" with military possibly not getting paid I asked the question to a few friends "You don't have a few weeks of living expenses?" Everyone said no! These are people that are making $50K per year PLUS whatever their military husband makes. What the fuck is that all about? How are people living paycheck to paycheck while making that amount of money? Not to mention free housing and all the other perks. But then I see them driving their $50,000 brand new truck financed at 8% and their perfect nails and hair, and they talk about going out drinking every weekend... it all comes together. Most people spend what they make, regardless of that amount.

I don't live paycheck to paycheck and I save for retirement. But I also worry about the cost of heating fuel, take the time to look at sales, and hold off on new purchases and generally make smart decisions.
