Hello everyone

I just got a 52x24x52x CDRW. However, it would not let me install any applications!!! Whenever I try to install applications like FileMaker Pro or MS Publisher, it would give me an error message saying:
"The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance."
When I try to install Nero Burning Rom, it says:
"1607: Unable to install InstallShield Scripting Runtime."

The computer I'm having problem is brand new.
AXP 1800+
Epox 8KMM3I Motherboard (KM400 DDR333, AGP8X with Integrated UniChrome Gfx)
256MB PC2700 DDR RAM
Western Digital 40GB 7200RPM HDD

Nothing is overclocked. Please help!

Thanks so much guys!

Sounds like the windows installer is fubared. 🙁

Some programs make changes to the installer before they install so you could have had a crap piece of SW trash it.

I'd search the MSKB and see if it addresses this issue.

Okay, I just searched Google about this problem and it took me to a site with few suggestions on how to fix this. http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=q108340

I just went through all of them and the problem is still there... I did a fresh install of Win 2K Pro and downloaded all the critical updates including service pack 4. All the drivers are installed too. I thought it was the 52X CDRW, so I replaced the CDRW with another 52X CDRW (different brand) with no luck... Mind you, these CDRW's work perfectly fine on my other systems and I've built numerous computers and installing O/S and other programs never gave me any problems. I have no idea what is wrong with this system. What could possibly cause this problem? Could it be a power supply problem? It's a generic 400W (max) PSU inside the case... Nothing is overclocked.

Please PLEASE help. Thanks so much!

It's not that.

Try enabling the Windows Installer Service in the services.

I used to have that problem... Make sure you virus scan too.... I found a few viruses.

How do I enable the windows installer service? I don't think it's a virus problem since I did a clean install of Windows 2K Pro after formatting the hard drive.

Thanks!
