I have a problem that I can't seem to figure out and I was told to try the AnandTech forums because you guys know your stuff. So here I am with my first post to see if anyone could suggest something. First off my computer specs are:
AMD XP 2600+
Radeon 9200
1 gig DDR pc3200 RAM
120 gig western digital HD
WIndows XP with SP1
(all the latest drivers and firmware)
I have an LG 52x24x52 CD burner which i bought about 5-6 months ago. I had no problems with it what so ever and it burnt fine at speeds of 45x+ (depending on the max of the cd-r). Anyways, about 3 days ago when i was burning some files when i saw that it was only burning at 16-18x max.
I checked all the settings and nothing was wrong. I thought perhaps it was just a temp thing and left it be. Then later that same night i was making an ISO of a cd (this is all using alcohol 120 and EZ cd&dvd creator 6) and saw that it read at a max of 16-18x too. Now I was worried and checked everything, but i could not find what was wrong. Now when i burn cds or read cds it uses up 100% of my cpu to the point where i can't even have mediaplayer running (all slow-mo and choppy) which i could do before or even have winamp open. I'd watch movies while burning cds to pass the time. Now I can't. Is my burner dying already? My last HP burner lasted me for almost 3 years. Can anyone suggest anything? I even tried using nero burning rom and it says i'm burning at 48x but the cd took me over 5 mins to burn, so i think it was all liez. Thanks in advanced to who ever replies.
