Top rated. $32. Cheap.

Accessmicro.com

Add a third drive to your rig. Aopen is good with CloneCD as the read drive.

Way better than the 50x Delta POS drive @$10 if you ask me. I actually figured a way of getting it for free, only the two month refund credit outlay. And decided against it, the deja and other reviews of that drive were so bad.

Opposite type reviews for the aopen. Check it out. Nice drive. Fairly quiet.

quick question: does this drive have any noise problems? Does it sound like a jet engine in a system? (sorry have had drives sound like that.)

Not especially noisy for the speed, from what I can tell.

One hears that the Pioneer DVD drives are real noisy for example. Don't read that about the Aopen 52x. I've done some research. Just ordered. Haven't tried.

I think I read this drive has pretty decent DAE (digital audio extraction) which is important to me for audio CDs. Anyone know if this is true.

I had 3 Acer 50x drives die on me -- not one lasted more than 3 months. The crazy thing is that I have an AOpen motherboard. Now I'm trying the POS Delta 50x drive. May be a good price for the Acer drive, but I think there may be something wrong with the whole production run.

I have an AOpen 50X that does a minimum of 14X for DAE, and it averages 26X DAE for an entire 70 min. CD. So to answer a question above, it can dub 12X audio CD's on the fly. And yes, my drive came with audio cables, and no, it's not very loud. Great drive for the price.

Hey. I'm not sure if it's related to the new AOpen drives, but I have a ACER 40x and it's the loudest CD drive I've ever heard(Aren't AOpen and ACER the same company?). I don't have anything against ACER in general but the 40x drive at top speed is a good bit louder than my new Iomega 12/10/32 which someone earlier mentioned as being loud. On the other hand, I love my ACER 2x2x6 that I've been using regularly for about two years now. Obviously the manufacture of ACER drives may have changed a lot in the time since I bought mine (the 40x had just come out). Just thought I'd share, for any of you especially concered with noise output.

I don't know much about the Aopen brand cd-rom. But I can recommend the Memorex 48X cd-rom. I've had one for over a year and it's got hundreds of hours with no problems. Just don't pay more than about $10-20 for it. Staples has it all the time for this price with a MIR.

I've had an Aopen 52X for about 6 months. Works fine. Not as noisy as my previous Toshiba 32X.

Personally my slot-loading Pioneer 16x DVD drive is the loudest I've had, but hey, the thing look SO cool, I forgive it! These AOpen drives are pretty darn quiet in comparison (my friend has one). Then again, a tray-loading Pioneer drive would probably be quiet in comparison with this thing, heh.
