I searched on the internet on Saturday and found that this company has an External 525 USB 2.0 Enclosure onsale at $22.49. I bought the enclosure, a Bytecc aluminum notebook cooler and with shipping the tab came out to $48.62.

This item is hot for those of you who have laptops and want an extra ide device added to your notebook such as cd-r drive, dvd or hard drive.

I'm in Colorado and UPS Ground on a pair of them came to $10.80.

I figured I'd give 'em a try to see if they're quieter than what I'm using--I'm trying to quiet down my workstations out here and right now the external USB2 CD enclosures I've got are noisier than the computers they're attached to.

it's STILL on sale TODAY, BUT they're out of stock. Actually, the one from HardwareCooling is "cheaper" even after shipping IF you buy more than one. However, I don't know if the quality is comparable, but I'll find out because I just bought a couple.

If it OOS at hardware cooling, you can get the same enclosure for $1.50 more at Directron.com (not sure how shipping fees compare between the two places).

I was going to buy this enclosure a while back, I decided to go with the all-aluminum version which I found for about $37. Looks much better than the plastic enclosure... just my 2cents.

I got the CoolMax External Enclosure today and it does the job in my CD-R drive. It's not that noisey as you might think. Not too bad for this kind of price.

HardwareCooling is NOT a certain quick seller. I placed my order on March 9, and today is March 12, the Order Status is still Processing

Order #xxxx (Processing)
Order Date: Tuesday 09 March, 2004

They already withdrew my money from my credit card and now still processing. I emailed them and no response from them.

I will wait until tomorrow to make my move by filing a complaint.

What exactly is the best enclosure? Plumax or Bytecc or some other company? I don't really care about looks as long as it doesn't look like a piece of trash; I'm more interested in cooling and loudness.

Just got my bytecc the other day. newegg rocks. pretty decent enclosure. a little flimsy when the cover is removed, but sturdy when the lid is closed. not very noisy either. recommended, esp for the price

Is there a big difference between this and an aluminum case without a fan?

Are the plastic ones very fragile?

I hear that the fans are noisey.
I've read that aluminum ones dissipate heat better.

Thanks
