520W OCZ Powerstream PSU

Ok, I gave up on trying to skimp out on the PSU and have decided to get the 520W OCZ Powerstream. One more thing though. See the following:

http://www.ocztechnology.com/p...cts/OCZPowerStream.pdf

It confuses me, some sites say that this thing doesn't have PCI-E, but the site does. Did older versions not have PCI-E cables? And the part about the ATX 20-pin plus the P4 4-pin or the BTX 24-pin and the 4/8-pin thing....this confuses me. Is it saying that I can't have 24-pin ATX plus the P4 4-pin thing? Can somebody just tell me whether this PSU will have all of the necessary odd-ended connectors necessary for the 24-pin plus 4-pin 12V+ connector thing on the A8N SLI-DELUXE with dual GPU's?

Apparently it has universal connectors to work on both AGP and PCI-E boards. You can always buy adapters in case it doesn't have 2 connectors for the additional video card in a SLI setup.

I know about the adapters for SLI and that I'll probably have to use one adapter, but I want to make sure it comes with ONE PCI-E connector so I don't have to have two adapters. And I want to make sure it has normal 24-pin plus the other 4-pin support WITHOUT adapters.

Just so you know, any website saying that it is BTX compliant has a 24 pin connector. The ones that don't say that are an earlier version of the psu that comes with a 20 pin. The latest revision comes with 24 pin and a pci-e connector.

I just got one, and I'm happier'n a pig 'n sh-poop.

I was sheepish about the "Mod"-type PSUs that have the UV-reactive cables that you connect to the PSU as needed. To me, it seems like just another weak link in the connection to the PSU, where traditionally you have the device-wires soldered to the PSU innards.

But what I discovered with the PowerStream is that it is "modular" in a way that makes sense. You have EPS12 compatibility, ATX12 compatibility, PCI-x compatibility -- and a shielded pair of four-pin Molex'es with ferrite-cores near the plugs for the SLI thing as well as the extra power required by the last two years' worth of high-end video cards.

I'm surprised that you say you "decided not to skimp out on the PSU", because basically, what I see with this PowerStream 520 model is a PSU that gives you more than you pay for -- given the across-the-board market offerings of other manufacturers.

If you don't live in Texas, order it from Directron. $133.50 is the lowest price I've seen anywhere, and they're offering free shipping. Since they ship from Texas -- and if you don't live there -- you won't pay state tax, either.

Sorry Bonzai, but the tax accountant in me says that you do have to pay tax on that stuff from out-of-state. It is on your tax form labeled as the "use tax"... 😀 Few people know about it and even fewer people pay it, so no problems. 🙂

I thought there was a big discussion about taxing e-purchases a few years ago in government, and it was decided that it was to remain as it is.... no tax on out of state purchases. Of course, I'm not a tax professional either... 🙂

in some states (ohio for sure) you are asked to declare all purchases that you dont pay sales tax on so they can collect a tax for those. so just because you dont pay the tax up front, many states will still try to collect.
