512mb or 256mb? My last question...

Ello! I'll be running, just for a little background,

AMD X2 4600+
Asus M2n SLI Delux Mobo
2gb Corsair XMS 667 ram
19" Undecided LCD monitor (Is 5mms-8mms alright for gaming? I'll probably go for the 5mms, that's faster right? After that i just need to find a deal)

Radeon X1900XT

Now, i'm not sure if I'll need 256mb or 512mb


Any help is appreciated, especially if you explain why.

IMO since the prices 512MB are around $300, I don't see why not?

512 are around 350, 256 are around 280 Somewhat of a large difference.

I plan on upgrading around early 2008 months so i didnt want to splurge on a X1950XT, but at the same time I'm not sure if i'd need or if it'd be useful to have a 512 over a 256 for the next year and halfish before i upgrade to DX10 and vista.

The differnce between 512mb and 256mb for the X1900XT is not a big deal... check the benchmarks in games here

Is there any reason why a 512 would help over a 256 if i didnt have a >20 monitor? I do have the money to spend, but the more money i dont, i have for later

Saphire a good manufactor? I can shell out a little more if i'm getting a better made card.

Sooo.... To recap the 512 isnt good nuff especially with Dx10 coming out soon to warrent a 75 dollar increase? I'd agree ewith 512 for 300 but they're at 350 for newegg and i'm not ebaying this time

Most LCD monitors 16ms or under is perfectly fine for gaming (the Dell 20.1" widescreen is 16ms and runs with zero ghosting).

I was actually wondering about the 256 vs 512 myself, as I intend to game on the 1680x1050 res and it may help, but the price seems to great to warrent the purchase.

I game on a 8ms viewsonic LCD and image blur/ghosting is only very slight and not noticeable really.

Sapphire is OK except their warranty service sucks. But if you have a problem with the card within the first year you can go through newegg instead.

compatible with my mobo? It occured to me it says crossfire...but my mobo isnt crossfire...And i can't find a non crossfire version. Could anyone link me to a 256mb X1900XT from newegg? I cant seem to find one :/ It's probably just me..

it says crossfire I believe because it supports it, not that it requires a crossfire mobo.

Can anyone confirm crossfire works on non crossfire boards? I'm a little concerned, this is my first build.

The card will work just fine. It has crossfire capabilities, but obviously you can't use them. Even Anand recommends getting the crossfire card over the regular, since there's no difference except more features.
