I currently have a single stick 512MB Crucial CAS3 SDRAM (SDRAM) in my Abit KT7A-RAID. Works perfect. I am thinking of going with another 512MB stick of a different brand, possibly Generic to save cost.

Question is:

(1) Is it worth it to go 1GIG RAM. I know there is a debate on this a while back.

(2) If the Generic RAM is not CAS3 will is make a difference?

I do not overlock my RAM or CPU. I just let my 1333 run at 1380.

I do not think you will see a large difference between 512MB and 1GB. I see no difference between 512MB and 768MB. However, if you are used to playing games like BF1942, doing intensive graphics work or running hundreds of programs then you may see a difference. Does task manager say you are using all of your current memory?

I do not think that you can get SDram at anything higher than CAS3. Only CAS 2 and 3 to my knowledge. If the generic runs at CAS 2 then you can just slow it down in the bios to run at CAS3. The crucial will probably run at CAS2 as well.

I think it would you would see a much greater performance increase from throwing a $50 Athlon XP1700 in your board.
