512g ssd is that enough room?

I was looking at maybe getting the Samsung 950 pcie SSD it looks to be a cheaper option than getting 4 SSD and running them in RAID 10. I am not sure that this will be enough room for 6 large games and a OS.
I never looked at how much room I used on my SSD before it was 800 gig so I didn't worry.
The SSD has failed some what have 600 gigs left so looking at what to get next.

I would budget at least 20GB for OS, another 10-20GB for apps. Also have to factor in a swap file up to the amount of ram you have and maybe a hibernate file (8-16GB each). Games vary, but can get up to 50GB easily. That being said, it should all fit on a 512GB SSD (~460GB formatted) unless the games are much larger.

A ~500GB SSD is a reasonable size... I have one in my GAME rig, I have something like 15 games on it (some newer, some older/smaller) and it's at 275GB. Allowing for 10% free space for proper function, that still leaves around 150GB open.

So you're using 200GB on an 800GB SSD now, and you want to know if a 500GB is enough?

Easy answer: is 500 > 200?

This.

I was using an 80GB SSD without problems until (kindof) recently. I picked up a 256GB for a song in the classifieds, and at present it's more than 50% empty. If I had less space, I'd just be more thoughtful about how I filled it.

Currently have about 200GB free on my 500GB Evo 850, so for now it's enouugh. I relocated the My Documents, My Pictures, Downloads etc. to an HDD. I have most frequently played games on this SSD, but a few are on an HDD and some are on a secondary 120GB SSD. It's easy to create multiple libraries in Steam. With games it's hard to give an estimate - some are just a couple of gigs while others can take up 60+ GB...

Running 4 SSDs in RAID-10 is a probably a waste of your time and money unless you have some very specific workload that requires high availability, and increased performance.

500 GB SSD should be more than enough for your OS plus a few games. For reference, I have windows, 7, all of the files downloaded for windows 10, Ubuntu, a linux swap partition, and I still have like 50 GB of free space on my 250 GB SSD. I don't have any games on the SSD though.

I've only filled up 38% of my 256 GB SSD so far, so I'm going to say yes. If you have a ton of games and movies... maybe not so much.
