I was just checking out this cool little thing called Cpu-z, and realized that I have a 512 stick of PC2700 and a 256 stick of PC2100 in my rig. I thought it was all PC2100.

I tried to bump up the FSB to 166 :D just to see what would happen and of course, the next thing that happened was I reset the cmos so I could boot up again.

I have:

AthlonXP 1700+ Rev B. I followed the guide and found that it started as a 2800.
Thermaltake 11 + 4 case fans. Temps are plenty cool enough right now (30's).
Mobo = Epox 8k5a+

Would I lose or gain performance by pulling the 256 if I can then OC quite a bit?

My other problem is that my mainboard says it only accepts up to PC2700. So, I think I am kind of stuck right there for now.

That depends entirely on what you use the system for.....gaming system, general work, 3D modeling, graphics design, etc.?

The easiest solution would to use the 512mb stick of PC2700 and see how far you can O/C. Once you are running stable, load up your most memory extensive program and/or game, and see what you think.

Even though your MB only supports up to PC2700, you should be able to get a decent O/C out of it. I would think you would see a much more of a performance increase with the overclock as compared to the extra 256mb of RAM. That again, all depends on what you system is used for.

It's mostly for gaming, and now for crunching.

Actually right now it's for the garbage because I just fried my mobo :eek:

I'm installing an Epox 8K9AI but it still only goes to PC2700.

Now I know what to ask for at Christmas time :)
