512 or 640 MB RAM

I run Win98SE.
I presently have 384MB RAM.

With PC133 being so cheap right now, I was considering getting another 128MB DIMM, but crap, 256 is so cheap too. Would there be ANY reason to get 640MB RAM on my system? I pretty much only play games but some are real memory hogs (like FS2K).

Thoughts?

Oh yeah, 1.2 T-bird
MSI K7T Pro 2A

Uh dude, more than 512MB of ram on 98/98SE or ME may cause system instability. Even if it didn't (which it probably will if you don't adjust some settings) Windows 9x doesn't manage memory that well. I'd HIGHLY suggest using 2000 if you are going to load down your machine with that much ram. Not to metion you aren't going to see any performance difference from 384 to 512 or even 640 (that is if you are doing things like video editing).

I agree with this...

I wouldn't buy anymore...save your money. I don't notice a difference between 512 and 256...at least not a great difference.

i'm using win2k and i recently went from 384megs to 512megs pc133 (mainly to get ram that would overclock and i wanted 2x256 instead of 3x128). there's no difference unless i go absolutely nust with content creation...like using acrobat5 to create a pdf file, while working on a huge file in photoshop6, playing around in studiomax3, all while creating a web page in dreamweaver4...and having fireworks3 and flash5 open in the background just in case i feel like using them. basically, stick with 384megs and save up for a future upgrade...

Good to know you stood strong. It almost feels as if you're obligated to buy RAM at these dirt low prices.
