512 MB Mushkin RAM in my KT7 RAID?

Hey all,

Mushkin has 512 MB dimms on sale for $79.00 right here. Sounds like a good deal, and it works with my chipset, but I've heard that the KT7 doesn't support high density chips. This confuses me in two ways: Firstly, I have been using a 256 MB stick of "Athlon only" high-density stuff for quite a while now. No problems. Also, on the KT7FAQ, it says the KT7 doesn't support high density modules (which I think I have been using) but doesn't mention anything at all about 512 MB ones specifically. So, does anyone have this particular RAM working on their machines? Or know if there's something that can be done to make it work?

Thanks

<< These Mushkin PC133 modules are designed for motherboards based on the VIA KX133, KT133, KT133a and Apollo Pro 133a chipsets. >>

It says right on the like you provided,so yes it will work on your Abit since it's a KT133 chipset.

Since the KT7 supports up to 1.5gigs of ram & it's only got 3 ram slots,3X 512meg sticks is the only way to get 1.5gigs of ram in it. so yes it supports it.

I wish they still had their deal of the high quality Mushkin RAM (3x 512MB sticks) for $390. 🙁 🙁 That was a steal, the good stuff for a great price.

Where did you hear the KT7 had problems? I have a KT7-RAID which is why I ask.

LMK because that RAM is tempting..

Right here at the KT7 FAQ, it says

<< Note that the KT7 does not currently support the newer very high density DIMMs - these may be described as 256MBit SDRAM devices, or with a RAM type of 64Mx4. This may be fixed in a later BIOS release. Other densities such as 8Mx8, 16Mx8, 32Mx4, etc will work. >>

--Which is the whole reason I asked. I'm not sure if it's just a particular density, or if it's ALL high-density stuff. If it's true, and it's all high density stuff, this RAM will not work.
