510 vs 320 vs C300

Currently, I have the Intel X-25M 160GB G2 in my laptop. I would like to put the SSD back to my backup PC and get a new SSD. Cost will not come out of my pocket but I need to keep it reasonable.

My choices are:
Intel 510 250GB
Intel 310 300GB
Crucial C300 256GB

I really want a SATA III SSD for the performance. Read a lot of reviews about reliability with SSD that is not Intel. That part scare me if I go with Crucial. From my understanding, the Intel 310 is more of a replacement of the X-25M with slightly better performance. Seem like the Intel 510 is the right SSD for me? The only problem is the 510 cost $100 more than the C300 from our vendor.

Any opinions?

So the new one is for the laptop. Does it have Sata III? If not, I'd get the Intel 320 personally.

You're right, Intel is rated higher for reliability, not as good in benchmarks as Sandforce drives, but cost more.

It's not going to be a whole lot different than your X-25 M.

Edit:Actually I think it will perform better because I see you're looking at the 300GB model.

You probably mean the Intel 320. The 310 is a mSATA G2 based SSD. If your laptop is the Sandy Bridge Dell XPS in your sig then it probably does have SATA III. Of your choices, I'd pick the C300 or it's current m4 iteration (which was recently on sale). Nothing wrong with the 320 or 510, they're just disappointing since everyone expected them to leap frog far ahead of everyone like before. In the end, you'll have a hard time telling the difference and justifying the cost of any difference you'd see. The Intel G2's you own, still own.

Yeah, it's for the laptop and it does have SATA III. Pretty bad reviews in crucial's website regarding the m4. I'll stay the hell away.

Question. Do Crucial have a similar tool like Intel's SSD Toolbox, especially the SSD Optimizer?

No.

I must warn you, the 4K write speeds of my 256GB C300s have dropped by 50% (50MB/s to 25MB/s) and there's nothing that can be done about it.

This is not an unusual occurrence.

doesn't garbage collection or trim resolve this issue?

I was reading Anand's review of the C300. Didn't they "fixed" this problem with firmware 0002?

Mine came flashed with 0006 but I think there's another update to repair the stuttering with the Intel drivers.

Ya got me thinking....a rare occurrence.....and I updated the firmware to 0007.

The 4K writes increased from @ 30MB/s to @ 70MB/s. :)

I have no idea why but I'm not gonna look a gift horse in the mouth.

Thanks Zuffy!
