So how is this cdrom for free? The drive is 39.98 and the rebate is only for $20. The Staples coupon is for 20 off 50. So how is it free.

You need to add a free after rebate software to use the dollar off coupon. It's explained in the link he provided.

If you guys need a CD Rom, you better jump on this deal quick. It will probably sell out fast.

I went for the 56X DR drive with a $40 Staples rebate last month. Staples was nice enough to send me e-mail telling me they got my rebate form. The rebate supposedly will be mailed out next week. Final cost is just Washington state tax. Drive is noisy but pretty much reads all disks, including CDRW and off-brand CDR.

What free after rebate software is available? I did a quick search through the previous thread's list and none are active. Any suggestions?

Anyone buy this CD drive before? How did it work?

I can't even find a 50x on Delta's website...

Anyone know who the manufacturer is?

I bought 4 of these and installed 3 of them. They are very fast. It takes about 3 secs to load the cd and has fast transfers and is pretty quiet. The front bezel hinges down and the tray pops out quickly. I don't know about the manufacturer and the durability however.

Just ordered mine. I hope I get it. Only $12.18 after rebate, along with 20 Jewel cases. Not a bad deal. Ciao for now. Ape Out.

if that is the memorex dirve they have at my staples, then that drive really sucks. I bought one aobut 3 months ago, and i have hated every second of my life since, it is loud, slow, and very unreliable.

I posted a "review" of this 50X CDROM before. Basically, it's quiet, but slow. It's not Memorex.

For the DR 56X CDROM, the storage review? said it's fast, but noisy. I just insatlled it, and found it's actually sort of quiet, at least much better than my 40X Memorex. That so-called 56X (I know it means 56X max) cannot even feed my CDRW (2M buffer) at 4X.

I'm curious, which receipt do you send in to get a rebate from staples (from staples.com purchases)? Can someone verify they've received their check from them with the right one?

I'm curious because the packing slip says "not an invoice" and my order history says "No previous orders."

thanks
