50Watt laser vs. soda pop can

yeah i would think that would do alot of organic damage, quickly.

Imagine an ice pick heated to glowing white hot and thrust (through) a palm quickly.

50W at 5 mm is quite unmerciful. I met someone that experienced this misfortune. He said he didn't feel it right away but there was a hole completely through his hand and he was in shock just seeing that. Minutes later a pain ensued that was "beyond bringing tears to the eyes - it just wanted me to rip my hand off". :Q Definitely something to respect.

wow. guess theres no medical application for a 50w laser eh? haha perhaps amputation. I wonder what causes so much pain...i guess the fact that it burns every layer of nerve endings from one side of your hand to the other.

Now we just need to make that man-portable.

That guy's an idiot. I've got a 60W laser and I make sure there's plenty of shielding between me and any radiation when it's on.

It's possible to have 50W+ portable devices. They won't be pretty green or have allowable long runtimes but portable? Indeed.

I don't know what could be causing the pain but just the thought of thinking of it reminds me of stuff like this and gives me that uneasy feeling. :Q

The one I use is about half the size of your pinky finger, is fully portable and plugs into any wall outlet. And it'll run for quite some time provided you have the water cooling hooked up, but that's fairly portable as well. 🙂

Yes it's possible to have them portable but the diode bars are to be liquid cooled if energized for more than a few minutes (or seconds if your heatsink is small). Power can come from a pack of 18650's. 😀
