March on Washington: some will come to commemorate, but many will arrive with hopes of recharging a movement

By Janell Ross, The Root
12:20 a.m. EDT, August 20, 2013

As the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom draws near, thousands, if not tens of thousands, of Americans are busy readying themselves to converge on the nation's capital.

Kim Moore, 28, a consultant in the San Diego area, said she's reached a phase in her life where she's ready to move beyond "talking and the marching." She said she wants to turn to direct and strategic action that will force some of the changes she feels are critical to the country's social and economic health.

At the top of Moore's list of concerns: the 13 percent black unemployment rate, policies such as Florida's "stand your ground" and New York's stop and frisk and voting changes in states such as North Carolina that imperil the ability of people of color to shape the nation's laws.

"There are several reasons I wanted to be sure that I was at the March on Washington," said Moore. She added that unfair school discipline practices that contribute to the school-to-prison pipeline are also high on her list of issues she's interested in solving. "But the main reason, the primary reason, is really the state of black America today."

Sure there is a lot more we can do but we have come a long way in 50 years. Did anyone think 50 years ago we would have a black President by now?

Not me, as I wasn't born yet 50 years ago ...))

p.s.

The President is half white though ...... (just kidding))

Anyone else tired of this guy's thinly veiled race baiting? The quality of people who post here just keeps getting worse.

Yes, there are those that tire of him and his trolling ways. The OP posts ad infinitum about US issues ... but he does not live here nor is he American.

Sounds like a classic troll to me ...

You waited this long to put him on ignore? His posting style alone should've told you he's broadcast-only with an obsessive agenda. Doesn't even matter what it is -- he's worthless.

Just put him in the trash heap where he belongs.

Worthless, eh?

P*ss on you also, then ...... 😡

Recalling March on Washington: Much progress but much still to do

WASHINGTON - Tens of thousands of people from across the nation gathered at the National Mall Saturday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and to rally for what they believe is the unfinished business of the civil rights battle.

Under picture-perfect blue skies, the throng assembled around the base of the Lincoln Memorial where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his iconic "I Have a Dream" speech and listened to speaker after speaker implore them to become active participants, not bystanders, in the quest of racial equality and harmony...

Farce? Why is this bigot allowed to create all of these racist threads? He can't even post any original commentary. Just a copying/posting racist.

There is a question mark there, assh*le

( address your forum-mates somewhat nicer and they'll address you back accordingly ... )

95% of his posts in here are just copy/paste without comment.
I remember some of your comments at GZ thread however ....

For example:

"Looks like this is happening" ... Link

"Looks like that is happening" ... Link

So what is the difference if instead of typing "my own" one-sentencer, I'd just let article's (or headline's) heading speak for itself?

I make comments on what I posts, you can't say the same for 95% of your posts.

Most people take your lack of comments as being you support the contents of what you're posting. In many cases it makes you come across as being racist because you like to post racist laced articles or you like to parrot borderline racist comments (ie ebonics - ma baby didn't do noffin). Just like your recent obsession with black on white crime, I'm waiting for someone to flood the forum with whites committing murder and other crimes to offset your threads.

Look guy, you aren't fooling anyone. I have no idea what motivates you to make all these countless racial themed posts but I wish you would stop. Do you stop and wonder for a minute how you've suddenly become so unpopular?
