I have both the 1.;4 and 1.2. The 1.2 is really somewhat of a special purpose lens - I use it frequently for very low light conditions. It is a very tricky lens to use because when wide open, the DOF is so shallow. (about .35-in) I would recommend sticking with the 1.8 and 1.4 for most users.
As for your question regarding "worth the cost," probably not unless the cost is relatively insignificant. It is a big, heavy, beautiful piece of glass. It also takes big 72mm filters.
