$50k 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 w/4-wheel steering

4WS = damn dude, how did you fit into that parking space?

i think that the technology behind it is amazing.

and a suburban really needs it to get it into and out of small spaces.

4WS eh? Just what we need, another "driver aid" that will make people think they're invincible. 4WD is bad enough in the hands of people who can't understand that just because you can go, doesn't mean you can stop. Just what we need, more people careening down the highway in a Suburban at 85 MPH and saying, "It's OK because I have 4 wheel steering.".

Not that I don't think it's a good idea, it's just that I envision a lot of clueless people thinking that it's much more of a miracle than it really is.

you did read how it works at high speed correct?

instead of the wheels turning in opposite directions like they do at low speed, the wheels all turn the same way, which if i am correct will reduce the amount of roll in the body becase the whole car goes the same way at once, and the front end isnt pulling it as much as it does when the front wheels only turn.

plus, what dumbass soccer mom is gunna afford a 50K suburban? 2500!

i see more people who actually need it getting it then dumbass soccer moms who dont even know what it is!

people who need it = people who pull trailers often, and well yeah thats about it.

soccer moms wont like the look of it

Obviously someone who has NO clue how the technology works and what it is aimed at.

Also someone who obviously didn't read that this technology is only available on the 3/4 ton Suburban 2500 which is aimed at people who really use Suburbans for heavy duty stuff. Your typical soccermom would be driving a Suburban 1500.

Better luck next time Cayenne breath!😉

honda preludes did in the late 80's 😛

i believe gm had it b4 (or around the same time) as honda even!

they had it on sum of their 80's edition trucks, but the technology wasnt there so they discontinued production, and no one bought the trucks any ways.

I saw how it worked, and I agree that it will be amazingly helpful to those who tow trailers (though I've never had a real problem moving a trailer around with a "normal" truck anyway). I even agree that it will be helpful on the freeway. I'm just worried about 4WD syndrome where people see something that is only an aid as a sort of cure-all and then end up taking bad risks because of this.

Same thing happened with sprint car racing. After roll-cages were introduced there were suddenly a lot more wrecks because the drivers were less afraid of going a bit too far. No-one less than Mario Andretti himself said that he prefered the racing style before the roll cages to the style afterward. He said that the cages had to stay because they were a great benefit to driver safety (as far as surviving a wreck) but he though that they encouraged bad decisions. I think that this is a similar situation.

People who tow trailers will be getting the CK pickups, not a Suburban. And you would be surprised at how many soccer moms actually do have $50,000 to spend on a car. Lots of people these days are willing to live in debt if they can look good doing it.

EDIT: It may just be demographics and the area in which I live, but I see a helluva lot more 2500 'Burbans around my home than I do 1500 'Burbans. Most are dual-duty rigs. Husband drives a 3/4 ton pickup every day and the wife will have a 2500 'Burban or Tahoe.

Soccermom's with $50,000 to spend wouldn't be spending it on a 2500 'burb. They'd be cashin' in on Escalades, Navigators, Expeditions, X5s, etc. Heavy Duty trucks are a bit rough around the edges for normal day to day travel as a family hauler.

Odd. I usually see 2500's. Though I tend to hang out with more of a farmer crowd. I need to remember that my observations are very far from the norm. 🙂

NFS4, is tet or i right with who had 4WS out first in the 80's?

I think that either Honda (Prelude) or Nissan (300ZX) was first.

"1907: Felix and Norman Caldwell of South Australia applied for a patent for four wheel drive with four wheel steering; they went on to build Caldwell Vale 4x4 trucks with Henry Vale."

"The third generation of Prelude was actually very little changed form the second generation. Most of the lines were the same, however there were a few design changes. The biggest change was the very front of the hood. On the second generation, where the hood slopes down to meet the bumper it is a grille. However on the third generations that slope is just a continuation of the hood. A few other cosmetic changes were made. On the back taillights where in the second generation it had ?Prelude? written in large black letters was changed to a smaller version in silver. However, the big changes for the third generation were under the hood. The Si got a even larger fuel injected engine that put out 135 Horsepower. This was the largest engine that Honda had ever put into a street car a that time. Another big addition was on the Si was four wheel steering. It is just what it sounds like; all four wheels turn. This was only offered on the third generations though. Another nice feature that a buyer could have gotten was a factory CD player. This is something that was not yet standard on any cars in 1988."
