500watt OCZ modXstream defect? readings?

I am not sure if this readings are okay.


today I booted my PC and immediately i smell burning things. I am not sure where it comes from PSU or Mobo.

I am going to check tonight what exatly is broken/burned. If burned, does it void the warranty?

specs :

AMD A8-5600k + ASRock FM2A75 Pro-4M
Gskill 1333MHZ 2x2 RAM
6670 saphire GPU
OCZ 500 wattModXStream

Typically, you can't open up a PSU without tearing some label that would void a warranty. But you can inspect the mobo visually to see if anything looks out of order there. The voltage readings seem to be within ATX specs.

If you figure the TDP of the 2 main items:
AMD A8-5600k = max 100W TDP
HD6670 = max 66W TDP

Plus more for mobo, memory, hard drive(s), etc, 300W is not bad under load. Now if that id idle then yes something is definitely out of wack. Personally I have had nothing but problems with Sapphire brand anything so I avoid them like polar bears avoiding the equator. I would suggest checking both the power supply and the GPU. Sometimes your nose can determine things faster than your eyes can, open your system and sniff around. Sniff close to the GPU, sniff the back of the PSU and you should be able to narrow down the source.

300W would almost certainly mean something is wrong.
