Hi

I'm planning a new desktop build this year, and I'm having a bit of trouble finding a suitable PSU. It'll be a small build, either in a Silverstone FT03 (not FT03 mini) or a BitFenix Prodigy. My current PSU is a rather gargantuan Cooler Master 850W, which is both too long for these cases, has too stiff cables, and is overpowered compared to my needs.

So what I'm looking for is this:

A PSU that doesn't exceed ATX length by too much
~500W
Preferrably 80Plus Gold, but Bronze is ok
Modular
Preferrably with some sort of short cable kit available

Any tips? My only hit so far is from Silverstone, but there's only one retailer selling them here in Norway, and they charge nearly double MSRP, so that's out of the question.

Bitfenix Prodigy: PS2 ATX (bottom, multi direction), PSU cage depth 180mm, max PSU depth 160mm
Silverstone FT03: Standard PS2(ATX) up to 180mm deep

With these limitations there should be no problem finding a suitable unit. 160mm depth is rather standard

The first one on this list that I would buy is Antec HCG-520M which is 158mm deep, but I'd definitely prefer a Gold unit.

XFX XTR 550W is exactly 160mm, it's a maybe in the Prodigy but a definite yes in the Silverstone FT03.

Super Flower Golden Green HX 550W is only 150mm deep, and much cheaper than the competition... the downside is that it's not modular, and uses some cheaper caps instead of the all-Japanese caps of the mentioned Antec and XFX units. It's not the highest quality but definitely acceptable IMO.

Short cable kits I know nothing about, I think you'll have to make do with the standard cables. Cable lengths: Antec HCG-520M, XFX XTR 550W, can't find info on the HX.

XTR is the only one that's fully modular, plus the cables are ribbon style so they take a bit less space. Definitely the one to go with if you buy the FT03 or can confirm it fits in the Prodigy.

Thanks for the tips! I'll look up a few reviews to see if any of those are any good - the XFX looks quite nice. I just hope they're quiet. I know the clearances of both cases, but both suffer from minimal space and few/no good options for cable routing. Also, the FT03 does accept 180mm, but if that 180mm is modular, then you probably won't be able to fit the right side panel back on. And the Prodigy has a similar issue - up to 180mm, but there's a solid metal plate blocking where the cables would usually pass through (or connectors would go, if your modular plugs are on the long side), thus you need a shorter PSU just to get the cables around to where they're needed. If not, I'd just keep my trusty old Cooler Master, which is 180mm and semi-modular.

XFX XTR is definitely quiet, it's a Seasonic X series relabel with semi-passive fan operation.
