5000 series current scaling in crossfire

I've seen it mentioned in other threads wondering whether the currently improved crossfire scaling for 6000 series cards might be driver related. Since the release of the 5830/50 Sapphire extreme models (Why do they call them that anyway? Nevermind, I digress. ) Kitguru has done a crossfire review, for these two models, with current drivers. Seems like scaling is very good in most titles. Anyway, for those who would like to see 5000 cards in crossfire with current drivers, here's a couple anyway.

Goes to show what a beastly perf/$$ the 5850 was and still is. I didn't hesitate when i got this setup at release day. Matching 5870s when both are OC. Very similar to the 6950 vs 6970, there's just no point in getting a 6970.

Seriously though, is there anything that comes close to a 5850/6950 CF setup for perf/price?

Edit: 6xxx CF scaling is more consistent overall. 5xxx can pull some good scaling % but not as often.

Sapphire has a 139$ 5850 at newegg (without Mail in rebate).

two of those in crossfire... is pretty crazy performance/$ atm.

How fast is 5850 crossfire? its slower than a 580, Id think but probably not by much.

And the price differnce:
~280$ for a 5850 crossfire setup.
vs
~480$ for a geforce 580.

two of those in crossfire... is pretty crazy performance/$ atm.

How fast is 5850 crossfire? its slower than a 580, Id think but probably not by much.

And the price differnce:
~280$ for a 5850 crossfire setup.
vs
~480$ for a geforce 580.

I wouldn't say two 5850s in CF are slower than GTX580, overall they are closely matched in performance.

The scaling in that article is good but not fantastic, and it more or less goes in order of the age of the game. At least that says there's hope for improved scaling if AMD keeps working on the 5000 series. On the other hand, the nearly 100% scaling of the 6000 series doesn't seem to be duplicated here:

Homefront: 51%
Total War Shogun 2: 63%
HAWX 2: 77%
Resident Evil 5: 82%
Aliens v. Predator: 82%
Far Cry 2: 95%
Lost Planet 2: 97%

I'll probably still buy that 5850 Xtreme once Newegg offers a special on it. Trying out Crossfire on the cheap sounds like a worthwhile experiment.

I'm quite happy with my second 5870. Then again I was happy with just one, I bought a second just to satisfy the upgrade bug. If anything I need some games, that I would like to play, to push these cards.

The real bang for buck is the fact most 5850s will do a 30% OC and still run quiet.
