Should be sedan for good mileage. Please reccomend both, an american and a japanese car, not for me, but for a friend. I told him my opinion that in the price range you can't really afford repairs a lot, so I told him to get a japanese car like a honda or toyota.

4 cylinder for low rates, sedan, not something with a crap load of miles.

I see you driving a Honda Prelude AgaBooga.... 1988.

that'll be too old for him

You ain't going to find anything good for $5,000.

He's 16, learning to drive, he's not looking for an aston martin. I'm sure he can do better than a 1988 in the price range

and move to :bitchslap:

Honda Civic 96-00 sedan in "good" should be obtainable for that amount of money (if it's USD)

Or their competitors the accord and civic (although overpriced even used)

For a new driver, those are great cars.

yes, also look around city auctions for these cars, you usually have reasonable time before the auction to check out the cars, some of them are fairly recent models, and youll find a way better price than the normal used market

Take a look at a 97-99 Dodge Neon. I had a '98, put about 20k miles on it before I crashed it. Never had a problem with it. Faster than a stock civic of same time period.

hmm an early to mid 90s buick with under 60,000 miles would cost under 5 Grand. The great thing about them, is that usually they are not driven very hard and well maintained ... so even if you buy a 7 or 8 year old car ... it is nearly as reliable as a new car.
