If you had a $5000 gift card from newegg, what components would you buy to build a gaming machine?

For $5000, you can get pretty much top of the line anything you want.

I spent about $2,000 on my Coffee Lake build, but I re-used my 980ti and Antec P280 case. If I didn't have them I'd add a nice case, 1080ti, and set aside the leftover $2,000 for future upgrades like a 2080ti once it's released.

I already don't have any budget constraints, I just don't like spending more than I need to for the features I want. A $144 Z370 motherboard had everything I wanted, so that's what I spent. Same with the 8700 non-K instead of K, and keeping the 980ti instead of buying a 1080ti just for a 1080p / 60hz display.

intel 8700 non-K
2 x 16 GB Crucial DDR 2666
ASRock Z370 Extreme 4
950 EVO SSDs: 500 GB boot, 2 TB storage
Seasonic 650watt Prime Titanium
(Antec P280, MSI Lightning LE 980ti, Asus?? DVD)

The boot drive is overkill for gaming, but I wanted room for development tools like Visual Studio, 3D engines, possibly the Android SDK, ....

1080ti SLI, 4k monitor, 8700k, 32gb ram.
Throw in a couple nvme drives and at least one 8TB He8.

I would blow half the budget on "peripherals" which are a much better "investment" than internals. Good peripherals are the cherry on the top of a nice PC. I used to be entirely the other way around but maybe as I got old I started to appreciate the little touches of quality hardware in my everyday interactions. Guess I realised that the screen I was looking at, the keyboard I was typing on, and the speakers I was listening to for sometimes 8 hours a day were more important than a few more fps in games.

Monitor (monitors? mounts?), Audio (interface, speakers, headphones, mic), and a nice keyboard and mouse can together easily cost more than some people spend on their entire systems. Plus with a $5k budget you'll have enough left for pretty good internals also.

Completely depends on what the machine is used for and if you were recycling anything.

But lets just assume you had nothing, and your starting from scratch....
And for me which is gaming primary, everything else secondary....

I would get:

1. LG 38inch ultra wide 1600p monitor to start it off. ~$1,400
2. Logitech G910 keyboard + Logitech G502 mouse + Logitech G13 game pad + Microsoft USB Gamepad Dongle + Xbox 360 pro controller. ~ $500
3. Asus x299 or Gigabyte x299 or ASrock Taichi motherboard.... ($350-$500)
4. Core i9-7920x (12 core / 24 thread) I used to have the 7940x, however i couldn't even get the cpu to ramp up past 25% in anything i threw at, including all my steam library. And the 7920X can be bought at a price of ~$1000 - $1100.
5. 960 PRO 1TB.. $650
6. 32GB of QuadChannel DDR4 $850

ACK you ran out of budget....

OK so lets change some stuff Toss out the Intel, and put AMD 1800X with a X370 motherboard... and ummm.... again... ran out of budget... cant seem to fit that 1080ti or a PSU + Case....

Mmmmm $5000 dollars isnt enough to buy everything... :(

But seriously what is it for, and what are u going to recycle is probably a very important question in regards to that 5000 dollar GC...

Because if you really dont even need a PC, then id grab a LG OLED TV:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod...39859&cm_re=OLED_LG_tv-_-89-007-183-_-Product

Which is from what ive seen is AMAZING...

And call it day....

While I would build a nice system that can do 4K gaming, I wouldn't blow the whole $5000 on it, save some money for upgrades or for other stuff from Newegg.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I really don't like these ultrawide monitors. People complained about 4:3 requiring you to look up and down to see the whole picture, but with these ultrawides, for a typical desktop setup, you'll be slightly scanning left to right.

ROFL, EVO SSD in a $5K build and an old arse HAF X case. I'd sell the giftcard for $4500, build a $1500 system and pocket the cash.

Yeah, I'd say you're paying too much for something. Probably the PSU for starters. But it's hard to tell without individual prices listed. Why don't you try pcpartpicker.com set on Newegg only?

edit: i'm not exactly sure what's overpriced in the ginormous bold build above, but if that computer is $4800 something is wrong. though 1080tis $1200 now, maybe it's SLI and i didn't notice?

What case would you recommend?
Do you have a $5,000 giftcard and are looking to build an actual PC or do you just want to see what we can come up with for five grand?

There are no quantities listed but it would have to be multiple for the rest of that to reach over $4,000. That or they are just using Google to search for parts and are picking the first ones they come up with. Even that monitor is only listed at $700 so something is way off about the price.

A ThreadRipper build with only 16GB of memory doesn't look right. What are you planning on doing that you need or can use 16c/32t but not more memory? Oh you should get a larger SSD, like 2TB.

I wasn't going to admit it at first but I actually have two $2500 gift cards from newegg. I want to build the best gaming machine I can at that price. How do I filter pcpartspicker to include newegg only?
