why not an MR2?

No back seats, not new enough, and not great for winter.

We found/bought a blue 2002 Honda Civic EX coupe, 5 speed, sunroof, power everything, keyless entry/etc, 112k miles, $5195 OTD. Quite a clean little car - worlds better than anything else we had looked at so far.

That's a very solid car and probably has another 10 years of life in it, if decently maintained.

My 1989 Prelude (rest it's soul) was at about 201k and still drove like a champ. Sold that to someone locally for just under 2k. I still maintain that late 80's, 90's, and early 00's Hondas are excellent machines and should last you easily to 200k. With 110k on the Civic JLee was referring to, that's not much. 5k is a decent price for that.

About 2 years ago my old rommate sold his 97 Prelude for about 6k, and it was not all 'riced out' or anything, pretty much stock and well cared-for. It had 145k on it and he was looking to sell it pretty quickly. The problem is that a lot of Honda owners are in no hurry to sell their cars and don't like to come down much in price. If you find someone who needs to get rid of their car, for whatever reason, you can usually get a better deal.

Good luck JLee. 5k can buy a pretty decent and fun car that is still reliable.
