I'm building a new machine for my parents business and want to make sure I get a good enough power supply. I know this is going to be overkill for them but the last one I built has lasted them 5 years with little headache and they are willing to put out the money so why not :).

asus crosshair 4 formula
phenom 2 x6 (have not decided on 2.8 or 3.2)
4 gb crucial ram
WD sata 6 gbps hdd
lite on dvd-rw
geforce gts 200 series video card
sonata 3 case with built in antec 500 watt psu

Which 200 series are we talking? 220? 240? 260? 275? That makes a huge difference.

Having said that, 500 watts is more than enough.

GeForce GT 240
GeForce GTS 240 *** OEM only (think of it as an overclocked 9800 GT in a Dell/HP)
GeForce GTS 250
GeForce GTX 260

The PSU with the Sonata III is probably an Antec EarthWatts EA500 or EA500D. It should be sufficient even for a GTX 260.

Fixed :p

A PC with a q6600 @ 3.2GHz and a GTX260 pulls about 360W from the wall on an 80% unit, so about 290W load on the PSU itself (I've tested this myself on a couple similar systems). The Earthwatts 500W is more than enough
