500 watts enough for an X1900 XT?

it doesn't depend on the wattage so much as the amps per rail. What psu are you thinking of first?

if you have an Ultra 500W or some other cheap make, then no
if you have an Enermax 500W or some other known, reliable make, then yes

basically, if you buy a cheap PSU the wattage rating may be high but if you look at the # of amps on the +12V rail it will be much lower than that of a PSU from a trusted make
