$500 upgrade budget for gaming rig

Currently my rig consists of:
  1. AMD64 3500+
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
    ATI Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB
    Raptor WD740GD 74GB
    2 x 512 MB of Kingston PC2700 DDR
    Antec Neo Power 480
What should I upgrade in order to be able to play games like Company of Heroes at high quality.
I'm kind of torn on whether I should switch to the new gen motherboards with ddr2 and sli tech or I should save myself the hassle and just upgrade the ram and gpu. what do you guys think, and what specific product would you recommend?

I already have a top rated psu, do i really nead a nasscool psu?

How long have you had it? And btw, a NeoPower isn't top rated.

Maximum PC gave it a kick ass and ranked it the top psu out of the bunch that they tested.

How long have you had it? And it still isn't top rated in my books, or pretty much anyone elses for that matter (besides maxPC).

Dump it for sure. Those caps are getting ready to *pop*. 460W Masscool Nextherm recommendation stands.

You sound like a big spender, but your main rig doesn't seem impressive. whats the deal?

'When' it fails? If you get a good PSU in the beggining (i'm saying if you do), it'll probably last for a while i thought? I've never had problems past 3 years...

You know what... thanks for the recommendations guys, but I think I'm gonna wait till memory prices drop than I'm gonna buy a gig. I'm not gonna worry about anyother upgrades for now, not sure if I should spend all that money on gaming parts, it'll distract me from my school work. Maybe I'll do an entire overhaul in an year or so. thanks though.

Memory, especially DDR2 is really expensive right now, so I think it's foolish to upgrade to DDR2 at the moment.

Either:
a) Buy an AGP video card now (and maybe some more ddr)
b) Wait and get a new PCIe, DDR2 motherboard in a few months, once ram prices have dropped.

Don't get a new PSU until you need one.

I just built a gaming rig for my bro for less than $650, you don't need half the stuff I bought so you'd be set with:

AMD A64 X2 4200+ & BIOSTAR TFORCE 550 GF550 combo @ Newegg for $250

ATI X850XT for $105 after MIR (I'm waiting for a deal for a 7900 GS for myself)

1GB of DDR2 for around $100 or find a deal like this in stock:

OCZ DDR2 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-5400 for $140

If I were you I'd get a gig or 2 now...I really don't think DDR is going to get any cheaper. Search the FS forums and I'm sure someone will give you a deal...you have to catch people migrating to DDR2. And I'd wait until dx10 cards come out...pick up an asus(like mine perhaps)..then you'll be set for a few more years.
