mom is giving $500 as bday present for a LCD monitor. I want a good one to play games and watch DVDs. the $500 is not set in stone as i can add more to get a good one. I'm looking for a 19". what I really want is to get the 2001FP from dell but might have a hard time justifying the price to my fiancee. also, is the 2001 a 20" or 21" LCD?

Cool mom.:) The BenQ's are the best price/performance LCD's other than that dell you mention which seems overbudget unless your girl kick down a B present too.

i've gotten used to the big size from my 21" nokia that just died. using my old, old 17" fishbowl monitor sucks. that is why i want the 2001fp. i might be able to get the dell if another hot deal comes along. but right now at $720+tax shipping its a bit too much. how does the 19" dell compare? is 25ms response time that bad? this will be my first LCD monitor so i don't know very much about them.

Shoot for 16ms and less.

I have yet to find a QUALITY 16ms or less monitor in 19" for under $700.

the 16ms BenQ looks kind of ugly to me but is priced just right. I also saw on newegg that ACER has 16ms 19" LCD for around $500. has anybody used ACER LCDs? thanks

watch out for CRTs that are made specifically for business apps. I have a 21" nokia that is great, but the antiglare coating on the screen means that colors are darker than they should be and gaming isn't as good as i would expect from a 21". I get more vibrant colors off my 17". I think CRTs also deteriorate faster than LCDs as far as pixel brightness.

Anyway here's the benQ LCD check out reviews there.

Here is what I'd get though:

you do realize that the NEC/MITSUBISHI FP2141SB-BK 22 is teh exact same monitor as the NEC/MITSUBISHI DP2070SB-BK 22

and many us of here cant figure out wht the DP2070 costs more
if you look on the NEC site they have exactly the same specs

 I work in the computer area at Staples on Saturdays...we sell about ten different LCDs there...the 17" Syncmasters definately have the best and brightest picture out of everything on display.

The best monitors are the Iiyama Prolite E431 - Great viewing angles and blistering 16ms responce time and in my opinion the most superior make of monitors. Check out this PC Pro A list and look at the monitors, all bar one Iiyama's. If you are looking for a 19" which I would not recomend (a waste of money if you ask me) you will be safe purchasing an Iiyama but if not this is a great BIG TFT: Eizo FlexScan L885. Hope you find what you want...

Also note if you are using it more for vid's rather than gaming etc you could get a widescreen with some scart sockets etc best one is the dell

how is this LCD from costco? sharp

its got 16ms but no DVI. is DVI a significant improvement over analogue(sp)? my 6800gt has dual dvi out and i feel like i'm not using it to its full potential. i wasn't able to find a review of this monitor.

and the thing with costco is their return policy. i can return it in a few years if it craps out on me if i have the box and receipt. i already have had 2 crts go bad, each after 2-3 years after i bought them.
