$500 for a Monitor

What would you guys buy if you had $500 to spend on a display? It would be used for gaming as well as general PC tasks. It would be connected to my Radeon 5870 so I should have horsepower enough for good resolution.

Right now I have a basic 24" Dell @ 1920x1200, but I am wondering if there is something really nice out there that is worth considering.

Thanks.

What is a Basic Dell 24"? Not an UltraSharp? If you've already got a 2405/2407/2408/2410 then I'd say that's fine.

I recently upgraded from a 2408WFP to a 2709WFP - I like the added size and ever so slightly nicer on-screen interface.

I have a Doublesight 265W or something like that, its a 26.5" IPS panel display that looks fantastic. I bought it for 650$ about a year and a half ago so I bet you could get something similar for 500$ (i think the model I have is like 450$ now or something). Anyway it was worth the money, looks fantastic and has no annoying buzzing or input lag, so I'm quite happy with it. Everyone that comes over to my house thinks it looks great too so I'm not the only one who thinks it looks good either. Anyway it's the only monitor I've ever had that people have commented on how good it looks, so that's gotta be worth something.

I'm using it with a 5870 at 1920x1200 and I max out all the games I'm playing now (aion, MW2, and Dragon Age).

I dont know what kind of basic dell you have, but IMHO best 24" monitor is Dell UltraSharp U2410.
It is IPS panel with 12 bit color per channel, and it's not that expensive...around your budget...$50 more or less depends where you shop
