Sorry, But for 500 bucks, I don't think you'll be able to get a better receiver than the Buffalo Bills have.

Ohhhh, that kind of receiver...

Outlaw 1050 :)

Ignore the looks. That's a damn good receiver.

It doesn't do DTS 6.1, but then again there aren't too many DTS 6.1 titles out there.

So if you wanted to pass the sound from your PC to a reciever, you have to use a digital connection, right? And with a digital connection, you can't get sound from DVDs? Do you get EAX 3d sound effects?

AVR325, especially if you're planning to use it with TV. Logic 7 does an excellent job processing 2 channel into 5.1 or 7.1 speakers, way better than DPL II or Circle Surround, IMHO.

SONY!!

Go for the stuff they made in the 1970's.

Thems be good. I got one. It may not be as flashy as the newfangled models out there now, but ask yourself this: Does your fancy-shmansy reciever use a twine-and-pulley system to move the tuning needle and adjust the antenna with one knob? I thought not!

Onkyo, Marantz, Yamaha, Sony ES (their lowend stuff is horrible though), Pioneer Elite (same deal).

Used H/K 520? The Outlaw 1050 is also great...Denon's line is impressive as well. Might be a little different since you don't know what speakers you'll be playing out of, but not too big of a deal.

My first choice would be a new or used H/K, since I have one and love it. And you sicken me when you say you'll "settle" for Swan :)

If you keep checking www.OneCall.com, they often have Refurbished Harman Kardon HK-525's on sale for around $500. I got mine from there for $499 + shipping, have seen them there for around $550 lately. The 525z (refurb) has the same 2-year warranty as a new one does at 1/2 the cost. Love mine!

Sicken you say ;)

if I could I would splurge for the B&W speakers I listened to, but spending 10 for speakers alone is way out of my budget :p.
