If you really think Obama killed Bin Laden and deserves that credit....you were watching the political ads. The military and it's expertise killed Bin Laden and that was in play for a long time before our saviour came around to take the credit.

Bush and his regime are gone....I wish the world would get over that. Four years have passed and I'd love the man to take responsibility for his presidency.

He hasn't done anything terrible to the military yet...it's coming. He is going to gut the military; not cut it back smartly and safely. Why, for one, he has no conceptual idea of what is required to run a military of this size and scope and two, he won't listen to anyone who tells him otherwise and have the expertise to provide him counsel.

Declare victory and go home. You would have to draft a half million people and spend trillions of chinese dollars to win that war and all you get out if it is TSA strip searches and runaway inflation (soon to come).

Oh the unfledged loyalty to a political party. The Senate plays the same game and they are by far mostly Democrats. Both parties are responsible. Both parties voted us into war.

How soon (or how far down the road) before I'm hearing about Bush with this new term.

Please separate the military from the politicians that control the actions the military are allowed to perform.

Politicians have setup rules that cripple the functionality of the military.
If the military gives out bags of money; it is under orders.

the governments are the ones that vet the local LEO; not our military.

Well we were all for it, I know I was and it had nothing to do with NATO. America was attacked.. let's fight with them, nato or no nato. But when America (Bush) lost interest and turned it into nation building, a waiting game, let bin ladin go. When he went onto Iraq, the smartest nations went on pause and the best of them have already left Afghanistan. We should have left as well like 10 years ago. Only the Dumbass English went to help you in Iraq.. oh and the coalition of "New Europe" LOL.

I agree, the military should not have the free reigene. They are to obey the legal orders of the chain of command per our constitution.

But they should not get the blame on the policies that are unreasonable being asked by them for the pleasure of the politicians.

The US military was unable to mount a deterrent against the Japanese conquest well before '42.

That is one reason is why the Japanese were able to sweep down through SW Asia and the islands of the East Indies/Philippines.

The US was unable to put up any decent resistance.
We had pockets of areas but not enough to turn the tide; it was a delaying action for 2-3 years, buying time to rebuild.

The attack against the fleet was to ensure that there would be no direct Naval support to challenge the island hopping going on. The Japanese air cover in their push made it easy against what resistance was available. Had we lost the carriers also; New Zealand and Australia would have been isolated. the Japanese were already knocking on their door from New Guinea.

The American army was in the process of expanding to ten times it's previous size. They knew the storm was coming. They just didn't start early enough.

It didn't help that Genralissimo MacArther was feeding Washington a load of bull about how the Phillipines armed forces were going to be able to tie up the Japanese for years if they invaded. All the while living in his mandarin luxury there.

Except of course Obama's proposal was endorsed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. "It's not perfect," said Army Gen. Martin E. Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs. "There will be people who think it goes too far. Others will say it didn't go nearly far enough. That probably makes it about right for today."

The DOD is going to spend OVER $700 Billion this year. It's an insane number considering the world. For example, why do we need to spend 5 billion this year building another Virginia class SSN when there is no sea power in the world who can threaten us and when our current SSN fleet could sink every navy out there in a matter of days? China is still a joke and no country in the world can project power in any meaningful way outside of their own borders. See NATO in Libya - they basically couldn't continue air operations after a few days without us.

There are so many people still stuck in the cold war - thinking that we need to fight a high tech war against another high tech enemy (Soviet Union 2.0). That threat doesn't exist and frankly there is no threat to American hegemony for he foreseeable future.

So let's move on from the Cold War, get out of Afghanistan, and move to a 1.5 war strategy with the ability to grow as needed, and do some nation building here at home for the next 5 years.
