I should add, I wouldn't spend $500 on a whim. I have trouble spending $3 on a whim. My purchases are calculated.

Why do you think this is so difficult....

If you're going to get an Onkyo receiver wait for the new series, it's due out shortly. The 605 seems to be getting a lot of attention on avsforum and is on presale at j&r for $399 🙂.

So don't ask for anything? Other then when I'm on deployments, I've never asked for any gift ever. Just throw a $500-600 party if they insist on spending it.

Not going to wait for the 605 like RaynorWolfcastle suggested?

I also recommend waiting on the Onkyo 605
The 674 is a little buggy, check the AVS forums, although I havent had problems with it yet

defiantely a new tv... or a freezer and some upgrades to the house, although that's not really frivilous i guess..

double that and get a 50" DLP HDTV.

I already have a PS3, which agreed doesn't have many exclusives but works well as a blu-ray player.

I'd also have a 360 for HD-DVD but I'm still waiting for the 65nm CPU refresh of it later this year, hopefully reducing the rate of red-rings-o-death.

i would pick up a nice powered sub and spend the rest on my trip to Vegas! woot. or buy a few more credits of college.
