In July 1973, Bruce Lee was working on a number of new projects, most notably the movie Game of Death. He’d been married to Linda Emery Lee for nine years, and they had two children together: 8-year-old Brandon and 4-year-old Shannon.

But on July 20, 1973, Lee went to take a nap after complaining of a headache and never woke up. An ambulance was called after he was found unconscious, but Lee was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Lee's sudden death at 32 years old was due to cerebral edema, or swelling of the brain — though several theories have emerged over the years regarding the edema's cause. In the '70s, experts claimed the brain swelling was caused by a hypersensitivity to prescribed medication, while more recent studies suggest the edema could have been due to heat stroke or from drinking an excessive amount of water.

I remember the thing the news focused on the most was that "HE HAD MARIJUANA IN HIS BLOODSTREAM!"

I think I faced hyponatraemia here: https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/dont-you-love-unexplained-headaches.2613791/

What makes me very sure is that I try my best to avoid salty stuff so sodium levels in my body should be lower than the typical person.

I could actually feel the headache changing in intensity between lying down and getting up. Like there was actual fluid in my brain. Took almost the entire day for it to subside. If it really was a mild case of hyponatraemia, I can see easily how someone would not be able to get up from a serious case of that.

Yeah but even slight increase can be bad because the skull cannot expand so it will just crush the brain cells inward. That is exactly what I felt. Something was crushing my brain on all sides.

So? I recall with much of the media panic about the use of ecstasy/MDMA the big danger seemed to be users drinking either too little or too much water. Can't say I paid much attention, as I'm far too square to know anything much about drugs, but it seems that the danger such as it was, was all to do with water consumption.

Apparently something about the drug can cause people to get confused as to how much water they are actually drinking.

The case that the tabloids all went on about, as I remember it, was that of Leah Betts. And sure, enough, googling it, it seems that was due to hyponatremia.
