50" standard definition (or EDTV) TVs exist?

I have another family member (this time my grandmother) who wishes to purchase a 50" or larger television (after seeing my grandfather's new Panasonic), but they are only going to be watching analog standard definition cable tv channels (with no interest in purchasing any HDTV or Digital Cable packages). Budget is $1500, I thought I might be able to save them some money since they will not be using HD.

Your best bet is to just get an HDTV, With that budget getting a 50" HDTV shouldn't be hard at all.

Well, when I offered her alternatives (even a TV with similar specs for less than half the price that was 42" instead of 50"), she pointed at my grandfather's 50" Panasonic HDTV and said I want THAT one EXACTLY like that. So, I ordered it for her, the free shipping was over at outpost, so she paid $160 more than he did.

One thing with going with an HDTV is that you'll have black bars on the side when watching SD stuff. Unless you turn on the option to fill the screen, then it gets ugly. For her situation, I would just go with a used rear projection SDTV from Craigslist or so. With the influx of people buying HDTVs, they've been very cheap on Craigslist. My parents have a similar situation where their specific Chinese broadcasts off directtv aren't HDTV, and they don't watch anything HD, so getting them to upgrade to a giant flat screen would be useless, with the exception of watching DVDs or so.
