Been looking around for a 55-60" plasma screen -- seems as though it would be perfect size for the wall. Pricing I've seen is astronomic, approaching $5k.

I've heard that prices are going down, but will it be anytime before next year when a >50" plasma will be affordable?

They are affordable now. If you are on unemployment, you might want to wait till you get a job.

You are true to your namesake, but I agree whole-heartedly.

Maybe the OP should donate a couple hundred to charity, put the rest if his savings into a CD and buy a TV next year after the 12 months is up.

Can you finance it? Most big retail stores usually offer 12-24 months no interest financing.

A 58" Panasonic is about $3500 right now, shipped, and from a reputable company. Their higher end model in that size is another $100-200.

You can buy a number of 50" for around 2K right now. Search for member "Athena".

Panasonic and Samsung to name a few.

Rumor has it these are going to have a price drop the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Bigger than 50" and the price really starts to ramp up.

Edit: And I mis-read your post. Thought you were asking about 50" and higher.

$5k for a 50-60 inch and you're complaining?

Look how much the costs have come down in the last 5 years. That's an incredible price.

they are going down, just nota s fast as u'd like. probably wait another 2 years:p and theres nothing shady going on. tv market is cut throat, sony had to pull out of plasmas. they make a product that requires massive investment in new factories to build newer tech with a product that drops in price from the time it hits the market. so prices are falling as fast as they can fall.

If you are around the NY/NJ area, let me know. I can get you way better prices than bestbuy/circuitcity.... I can even ship up to 42" models... anything bigger requires a trucking company which is expensive and cuts into the savings...
